- Use with caution in patients with a history of drug abuse, mental health disorders, or those at risk for respiratory depression
- Avoid alcohol and other central nervous system depressants while taking tapentadol
- Monitor for signs of serotonin syndrome when combined with other serotonergic drugs
- Use caution in elderly patients or those with renal or hepatic impairment
