Precautions:
- Regular monitoring of liver function tests is recommended before and during treatment
- Caution in patients with a history of liver disease or heavy alcohol use
- Patients should report any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, particularly if accompanied by malaise or fever
Drug Interactions:
- Increased Risk of Myopathy/Rhabdomyolysis: When taken with drugs such as fibrates, niacin, or certain protease inhibitors
- Increased Blood Levels of Atorvastatin: When taken with drugs such as cyclosporine, clarithromycin, or certain antifungals (e.g., itraconazole)
- Grapefruit Juice: Can increase atorvastatin levels and should be consumed in moderation
